Kabukicho is one of the most famous areas not just in Shinjuku but in Tokyo. Known for its nightlife and being filled with several restaurants, hostess bars and shops, it is no wonder that many tourists flock to the area to see what it has to offer.

Earlier this year, the area became home to a new complex which has become a new hotspot for tourists and locals alike. The new Tokyu Kabukicho Tower encapsulates everything Tokyo is; boasting a multitude of innovative and luxury attractions including a cinema, hotel, games arcade and much more.

Being 225 metres in height and having a rather unique exterior, this impressive high-rise building stands out in the Tokyo skyline. Interestingly, this skyscraper is the first one in Japan to have been designed by a woman, Yuko Nagayama & Associates.

The new complex is slightly tucked away and the entrance can easily be missed so to find it just simply walk straight through the main Kabukicho gate and walk towards the Toho Cinema, the building which has the massive Godzilla resting on it. On the left hand side, you will see the entrance to the Tokyu Kabukicho Tower.

One of the first things that will catch your attention is the big high-definition screen, which displays all the different events that are currently happening. This front whole area of the tower also has the potential to be turned into an outdoor stage meaning that in the future, more live events and premieres may be hosted here.

Drink and Eat with Friends at One of the many Izakayas

Possibly, the best area of the whole complex is the food hall located on the second floor. Blending the aesthetics of a games arcade and traditional Japanese alley, this food hall is a popular choice for tourists and locals given its unique retro feel and lively atmosphere.

There are ten different izakaya-style restaurants to choose from, all specialising in foods from different prefectures. Prices vary but on average, you can expect to pay between ¥199 to ¥1500 per dish. Given that many of the restaurants are open 24-hours, it is an ideal spot for those wanting to hang out with friends after a night out in Shinjuku.
