Not known to many, there is a mini Harry Potter land in Tokyo, connected from the underground of Akasaka station, so if you are looking for a free Harry Potter experience without going all the way to Osaka Universal Studios or booking the Warner Bros Studio Tour, this is the perfect place to visit!
Harry Potter X Akasaka Area Map
How to Get there?
- Take exit 3b at Akasaka station, where the familiar Harry Potter tunes will be playing throughout the station.
- Climb up the maroon stairs or ride up the escalator in front of the ticket gate.
1. Harry Potter Akasaka Station Gargoyles, Stairs & Time Turner
Once you are up the stairs, just inside the station, you will see a range of Harry Potter decorations, from gargoyles on the white columns lit up in the different house colours: blue, red, green, and yellow.
Once you walk past the gargoyles, you will see a wide maroon painted staircase surrounded by walls with paintings of the past witches and wizards, replicating the moving “Grand Staircase.”
The ceilings are also covered in beautiful astronomical designs, fitting in with the theme of time here. At the midway point of the staircase, there is the golden “Harry Potter Gate” with the hour glass decoration, replicating Slughorn’s hour glass timer and the time turner.

2. Harry Potter Street & Shop (anime character merchandise from 200 yen!)
Decorations & Design
This street located in Akasaka is filled with colourful buildings made from a rich burnished wood that is reminiscent of Hogwarts, and hanging house flags almost everywhere. There are beautiful cafes (like this hidden gem—a green house inspired cafe!) and restaurants scattered throughout the street, along with a Harry Potter store. This store’s entrance is marked by Harry’s pet owl, Hedgwig, and a parchment paper inscribed with the infamous Albus Dumbledore’s quote.
There are beautiful lighting decorations on the ceiling at the front as well, and designs of the hats and witches on the glass windows.
Merchandise
Inside the store, there are a variety of merch items from the infamous odd flavoured jelly beans, house themed sweaters, the Hogwarts uniforms, wands, hedwig plushies, character themed tablet candy containers, notebooks, butter beers, tote bags, a revolving music box cookie container and so many more! Not to mention, these are all of high quality and affordable!
There is even a special corner where they are selling anime themed Harry potter character goods for only 200 yen! This is a definite steal.

They serve items like simmering cauldron soup, golden snitch with avocado shrimp, platform ¾ beans, hedwig mini cake for desert, and spell themed cocktails, like blue expecto patronium!
In addition to the very in theme candle lights and maroon walls on the outside, the inside has the magical mystical feel with the dark turquoise wall furnishings, blue and red curtains, and paintings.

4. Harry Potter and The Cursed Child at TBS Akasaka ACT Theatre
The last part of mini Harry Potter land is of course the play which is performed in Japanese at the TBS Akasaka ACT Theatre with a phenomenal local cast. It has been running since 2022, immersing audiences in magical effects, time travel, and family drama. You can choose to either watch Act 1, Act 2 or both acts, playing on weekends and weekdays with a rotational set of cast. The cheapest seats (C seat) are available from 7000 yen to 15,000 or 16,000 yen for SS seats, depending on whether you go on a weekday or weekend.
Aside from the play itself, there are numerous decorations hung just outside with the four house flags, representing Griffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Hufflepuff.
There is also this beautiful statue of Hedwig, holding the letter delivered from the Chief Attendant of Witchcraft Provisions, at the centre, with dozens of envelopes for first year Hogwarts students fanning outwards.
