Aoyama Flower Market Tea House has two branches aside from Akasaka––Aoyama and Kichijyoji. This branch in Akasaka is located in a well known sophisticated office area and a shopping street part of a a mini Harry Potter land. To get to the cafe, you can exit through 3a or 3b, and it’s a short walk away from the Akasaka station. This tea house neighbours the main Aoyama florist store, with a wonderful collection of colorful and fresh flowers.
Ambience & Design
The cafe is designed just like a green house, with verdant greenery and fresh flowers enveloping the whole place. As soon as you walk in, you’ll see hanging plant plots complemented by the minimalistic light bulbs, and brick red walls covered in foliage. Even the seats are furnished with rustic silver, complementing the wooden counter top. Glass vases with the seasonal coloured roses, this time apricot for fall, are interwoven into the table from underneath with the flowers and foliage blooming through the table. This touch of floral decoration further enhances the lovely greenhouse feel, also adding a slightly ghibli like essence to the place.
Additionally, as this time it was halloween season, the orange pumpkins were also placed in the corner of the counter.
Menu Highlights
Flower Parfait and French Toast
The menu has both savoury and sweet options, but the sweet picks stand out for its floral design, ingredients, and flavours–––the main one being rose.
There are two main highlights for the sweets–––the flower parfait and the french toast. The flower parfait consists of a rose jelly, cherry mouse, chocolate sponge cake, vanilla ice cream, berry mix, cereal, and edible rose petals. It has a light, subtly sweet and refreshing, floral flavour, that tastes just like a rose would! The crunch of the cereal pairs well with the chewy texture of the petals and sponge cake, and the sourness of the berries balances out well with the sweetness of the vanilla ice cream and fluffy cream.
There are different french toast options on the menu with the normal five piece plate, the hana-kanmuri french toast, or savoury french toast with grilled bacon, a sunny side egg, a side of salad and potato, and more! These are all delicious regular items, but occasionally, they do also serve seasonal french toasts, like this fall themed one.
In particular, this seasonal french toast was both sour and sweet, topped with caramelised peaches, blackberries, cranberries, and grapes with a raspberry flavoured cassis ice cream and soft cream. The french toasts are not too sweet and quite light as well!
Rose Soda & French Blend Teas
Moving onto drinks, the parfait or french toast can also be paired with a drink of your own choice at the set price (+660 yen). This can either be a French tea or grapefruit juice. Surprisingly, the pdf menu includes diagrams to help you choose which tea to pick, based on the fragrance, sweetness, richness, how refreshing they are, and the measure of fruitiness.
Another highlight for a refreshing drink choice, is the rose flavoured soda.
Summary
Aoyama Flower Market Tea House is a splendid place to spend your mornings or afternoons, with a calming and refreshing ambience, food, and drinks. Make sure to stop by if you’re in the Akasaka area. Note that no reservations can be made. It is recommended to go in the mornings of weekdays or weekends, when it less crowded, but usually the wait time is not too long.
