Before coming to Japan, I’d heard a lot about Jiyugaoka.
With its European-style streets, chic vibe, and unique charm, it’s easy to see why it’s so loved.
While it’s a bit outside central Tokyo, it’s just a 30-minute train ride from Shinjuku.
Known as a haven for grocery and dessert lovers, you could easily spend an entire day here and still want more (I certainly did!).
In this post, I’ve rounded up five of Jiyugaoka’s larger lifestyle stores, each offering its unique style—perfect if you want to create your ideal living space.

"Today's Special" – A Lifestyle and DIY-Inspired Grocery Store
The brand “Today’s Special” can be likened to a good friend who knows how to enjoy every moment of daily life. Focused on lifestyle and DIY food concepts, it offers a wide range of modern, minimalist lifestyle goods, as well as various food items, clothing, and more.
The store has three floors, with the first floor dedicated to tableware, stationery, and food. I have to say, the variety of items at “Today’s Special” is truly impressive and makes for an enjoyable shopping experience!
In addition to its curated items, “Today’s Special” also offers its own original designs and seasonal-themed products, so no matter when you visit, there’s always a new surprise waiting for you!
If you’re too tired to carry all these goods home, I recommend picking up some of their snacks or seasonings. They have many unique items that make great gifts as well!
The second floor focuses on plants, fragrances, and clothing, while the third floor houses a café. If you get tired from shopping, you can take a break and relax at the café.
