When shopping for trendy and affordable clothing in Japan, Shimamura Fashion Hub is the place to visit. Known for being budget-friendly, Shimamura Fashion Hub houses several stores—Shimamura, Avail, Chambre and Birthday. Each store offers a variety of products to meet different needs, all under one roof.
Shimamura
Women's Clothing
T-shirts, blouses, dresses, skirts and pants are all really affordable at Shimamura. Look out for the clothing racks that have prices marked down for clearance. I picked up this gorgeous pink summer dress for just ¥1990!
Anyone who has spent time in Japan knows how challenging it can be to find clothing stores that carry their size. All stores in Shimamura Fashion Hub carry sizes from petite to what they call “Queen sizes” or up to 5L. Sizes above an L are usually found by the “大きいサイズ” (ookii saizu) signage.
Garment sizing can vary by brand, so make sure to utilize the changing rooms to try on your items first (and remember to take your shoes off before entering the changing room).
Whilst most Sanrio stores in Japan only carry up to a Large, Shimamura has Sanrio-branded clothing across all sizes. I found these cute My Melody Pajama Pants in a 4L for just ¥990!
For accessories and handbags, Shimamura had a decent selection available although Japan does spoil us for choice when it comes to finding affordable yet stylish hand bags! Bags were priced as low as ¥990 up to around ¥4000. I found this My Melody cross-body bag for ¥1500!
Shimamura Fashion Hub has so many shoe styles and brands to pick from. Avail has the largest selection, and Birthday is better for children’s shoes. Shimamura also carries a variety of casual ladies’ footwear at low prices, starting around ¥1000, though their men’s section is not as extensive.
When it comes to shoe sizing at Shimamura, here are the general guidelines:
Men's Clothing
The men’s section of Shimamura is noticeably smaller than the women’s section. However, you can still find a good range of clothing from casual wear to business attire, as well as accessories like belts, hats, and bags. Large sizes are also available in men’s wear.
Shimamura’s FibreDRY range is a game changer for hot Japanese summers. The fabric is designed to absorb moisture, dry quickly, provide UV protection, and reduce odour from indoor drying. They offer a range of affordable T-shirts, lightweight jackets, pants, and underwear made from this fabric in both the men’s and women’s sections.
Lightweight men’s jackets start at just ¥1490 and for ¥990, you can get a two-pack of basic men’s undershirts, in a range of colours and neck styles!
CLOSSHI is another brand in Shimamura that sells a range of items, including men’s t-shirts made from USA Cotton. These are only ¥990 aswell!
For men’s underwear, Shimamura stocks a wide variety of brands. You can find popular brands such as Adidas, Puma, Reebok, and FibreDRY. Pricing varies from around ¥490 to ¥2000.
Shimamura also offers cheap, good-quality bedding that rivals competitors like Nitori. You can buy futon, pillows, mattress pads, sheets and futon covers for really low prices.
If you are lucky, you might just score some character or anime-themed bedding for cheap too! Futon covers and other bedding starts at around ¥790 to ¥1089.
Shimamura has plenty of indoor slipper options to choose from! Kids and adult slippers were all in the same section but pricing does vary across options so be sure to check before you buy!
Avail
Avail is known for its trendy and affordable clothing options, catering to many different fashion styles. Like Shimamura, they also carry plus sizes and have the largest selection of shoes within the Shimamura Fashion Hub.
Men and women’s clothing is very affordable in Avail, with the majority of items being less than ¥2000.
As I mentioned earlier, Avail’s footwear options are endless. Big-name brands like Puma, Adidas and Nike are usually found together in a separate section, priced from around ¥5000 upwards.
If you are into Kawaii/Lolita clothing, Avail has so many options from clothing to footwear! Sizing guides are available in-store above the shoe racks or on their website.
Shopping for bras in Japan can often be difficult but Avail’s impressive selection makes it so much easier, especially since they carry from an A to an F cup! Make sure to check the sizing charts before buying though.
They also sell a range of sports bras with brands like Puma, although I did not find any plus size options in this section.
Chambre
Chambre is another store within Shimamura Fashion Hub that sells fashion, although it’s range is far smaller. This store should not be overlooked though as it offers a wide range of home and interior goods, plenty of accessory options like necklaces and earrings, as well as stationary, gifts and trinkets!
You can also find hair and body products like face masks, creams and even the popular haircare brand &honey! I often spot the limited edition variations of &honey products in Chambre!
Chambre has so many Mofusand items it’s hard to believe it isn’t a Mofusand store! I could find Mofusand stationary as low as ¥200, homewares like plates, cups, and tea bottles as well as their adorable plushies!
Next to Chambre’s homeware section, there are so many bath bombs and trinkets to choose from, including blind bags/boxes. Recently they had Simski blind boxes for ¥900 (Museum and Exercising).
Birthday
Birthday is THE store for babies and children’s products within the Shimamura Fashion Hub. Specializing in adorable and affordable items, Birthday covers everything from clothing and toys to school supplies and pregnancy-related needs.
Children's Clothing
Shimamura and Birthday both stock children’s Jinbei (甚平), traditional Japanese garments typically worn during summer. They consist of a top and shorts or pants, usually made from lightweight and breathable materials like cotton or linen.
Jinbei are super comfortable and often worn at home or during festivals and casual outings in Japan. I wear my Hello Kitty set (also from Shimamura) around the house in summer!
Birthday has endless options for Children and Babies clothing, from as little as ¥400. The quality of the clothing is excellent and most of the store was on sale so pricing was seriously low!
Just look at these adorable Sanrio children’s t-shirts! They were less than ¥800 each. I also found quite a lot of Disney, Pokémon, and popular Japanese children’s characters like Anpanman and Doraemon too!
Since it is currently rainy season in Japan, the children’s Rainy Weather section in Birthday was stocked full of colourful umbrellas, raincoats and rain boots. Remember to check the sizing on the handles to ensure it won’t be too big for your little one!
No matter your shopping needs, Shimamura Fashion Hub has something for everyone! Whether you’re a resident or a visitor exploring Japan, a visit to Shimamura Fashion Hub is worthwhile. You’ll find plenty of items without breaking the bank.
